Zach Barlage, joined the ESPN Williamsport team in July of 2013 to be the play-by-play voice of the Wilkes University Colonels football and men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Zach is a 2013 graduate of Widener University (Chester, Pa) where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a dual concentration in both broadcasting and public relations/advertising.
After playing quarterback for the Widener University football team in 2009 and 2010, Zach decided to “retire to the broadcasting booth” so to speak. With unique perspective and inside knowledge of the team and game, he began his path as the play by play broadcaster for the Widener University Pride in 2011 on the University’s radio station WDNR 89.5 FM. This move resurrected the University’s football broadcasts to the airwaves for the first time since 2008.
In 2012, Zach expanded his broadcasting role at the station as he served as the play by play voice of Widener’s men’s and women’s basketball teams. Zach’s body of work as a play by play broadcaster garnered the attention of the University’s Director of Communications Studies, calling him “the best student play by play man that he’s heard in the last 20 years.”
During his time at Widener, Zach also gained experience as an intern at 97.3 ESPN radio in Atlantic City, worked as an on air television reporter for Widener University sports, hosted a weekly sports talk show and was the sports director for the University radio station.
Zach currently resides in the southern New Jersey town of Mullica Hill, where in his spare time he enjoys going to the beach, golfing and watching sports.
