A graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Ian Catherine joined ESPN Radio Williamsport in August of 2011 and has continued to grow in multiple facets, from on the air to behind the scenes.
On the air, Catherine has enjoyed hosting the Monday and Wednesday editions of the Locker Room Show since 2012, as well as providing award-winning play-by-play. Ian, brought home a 2nd place PA.P.B.A. award in 2014 and secured a 1st place PA.P.B.A. award in 2015.
Ian Catherine currently provides play-by-play coverage for Men’s and Women’s Penn College Basketball, while providing play-by-play for Lycoming College Football and Men’s and Women’s Basketball in a fill in role. On top of covering colleges, Catherine has spent each of the last three seasons providing on-air coverage for the Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League. Ian has also provided play-by-play coverage of Mansfield University Sprint Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, as well as Lock Haven University Football.
Catherine’s first assignment for a professional team, came with the Williamsport Outlaws of the Federal Hockey League. With the Outlaws, Catherine provided play-by-play coverage while serving as the teams Director of Media Relations.
Behind the scene, Catherine has used his graphic design ability to provide graphics for www.espnwilliamsport.com, as well as maintaining various aspects of the website. Catherine also is the Director of Social Media, and developed the social media pages for ESPN Radio Williamsport, which are used by the rest of the staff to keep listeners as up-to-date as possible.
Ian Catherine is a native of South Williamsport, graduating from South Williamsport Area High School in 2007. While attending South Williamsport Area High School, Ian lettered in three sports; football, basketball and baseball for the Mountaineers. Ian was voted and served as team captain of both the football and baseball teams in his senior year. Catherine was named to and played in the 2007 District IV All Star Football game. On the baseball diamond, Catherine was selected to play for the 2007 District 12 Big League All Star team that went on to win the Pennsylvania State tournament and finished 3rd in the Mid-Atlantic regional in Dover, Delaware.
Ian graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in May of 2011 with a degree in Mass Media Arts and Journalism and Communications Studies. While attending Clarion, Ian worked in both the University’s television and radio stations in their respected sports departments. Ian hosted and produced weekly sports talk shows for both mediums and was the play-by-play announcer for Men’s and Women’s Golden Eagle basketball. While covering basketball, Ian was selected to represent Clarion University student media in Lexington, Kentucky when the Golden Eagles Men’s basketball team faced off against the University of Kentucky in a pre-season exhibition game at Rupp Arena. Ian was named and served as the Assistant Sports Director of the University radio station his senior year.
Catherine currently resides in Armstrong Township. Outside of ESPN Williamsport, Catherine has served as the head assistant baseball coach at Pennsylvania College of Technology. While a Penn College, the Wildcats have reached the USCAA Small College World Series in 2013 as well as capturing the programs first Northeastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship in 2015. Catherine previously served as a volunteer assistant baseball coach at South Williamsport Area High School.
