Doug Byerly serves as a play-by-play announcer and color analyst for local high school and college sports programming on WLYC/ESPN radio 1050 AM, 104.1 FM and espnwilliamsport.com.
Byerly joined ESPN Williamsport in 2007 as an analyst for high school football broadcasts. Since then he has also worked doing play by play for numerous football games in the Williamsport region. Beginning in 1998, Byerly began working as a high school football analyst for broadcasts on WYGL-Big Country radio based in Selinsgrove calling action in the Twin Valley Football Conference.
Byerly then worked for 4 seasons as the color analyst for the Bison Sports Network calling action for Bucknell University’s Division I men’s basketball program. During these seasons the Bison won 3 consecutive Patriot League championships and made league history with 2 straight wins in the first round of the NCAA national tournament. One of these wins was a memorable win over Kansas followed up the next season with a win over Arkansas. This was the first and only time to date for a Patriot League men’s team to win an NCAA tournament game.
Born Sept. 11, 1960, he is a 1984 graduate of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and also earned a masters degree in Sports Administration from West Chester University in 1999. He was a high school social studies teacher and coach for 13 years and has worked for Lock Haven University as Director of Athletic Development/Camps and Conferences, Bucknell University as an athletic fundraiser and was the Director of Athletics at Penn College in Williamsport, PA from 2008-2011.
Byerly lives in Lock Haven with his wife Lisa who is an elementary teacher in the Williamsport School District. They have 2 family dogs, Tato and Gus.
